The first alpha demo of Waxpack Summer is available for you to try!

Waxpack Summer Alpha Demo 0.1.2.49

It has been a fantastic summer of working hard on this game, while listening to Tigers baseball, to get it to where it is now, and I am happy to share this early version with you.

It is really hard as a game developer to actually put a game out there in an unfinished state. But what I am hoping to accomplish is to get you excited about where I am going with this game and to get your feedback on what you like and don’t like so far. How does it feel? What would you change? What would you like to see?

Since this is an early development version, you may be a little confused on what to do when the game first starts up, if you haven’t been following the blog here or at IndieDB. You can check out some of the videos at IndieDB and YouTube.

In the game, you can press the ESC key to view settings and controls if you forget.

There are just a few notes I’d like to make about this demo:

  1. Only three friend’s houses have been included. Two are to the east of your home and one is to the north.
  2. You can only mow the lawn at the houses on your street.
  3. The game window is currently constricted to my designed aspect ratio. To increase and
decrease the size of the window, press the Page Up or Page Down keys.
  4. To end the current day and start the next, click the bed in your bedroom.
  5. When I install this game on my PC, I receive a warning from my antivirus software, and I
suspect you may too. I believe the cure for this is at some point I need to digitally sign my
executables. Until I am able to do that, you have to trust that the only thing I am packaging
here is the install file generated for me by Game Maker Studio.

So go head and give it a whirl. Open that first pack of cards and smell the bubble gum. Who did you get? Nolan Ryan? Rickey Henderson? George Brett? Walk over to the store and buy another pack. Trade some of them with a friend. Soak in that summer atmosphere.

Please let me know what you think and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments. I hope you enjoy the demo and see the direction it is heading. I’d love to hear from you soon!

Save and Load Games Now Complete

It has been an intense couple of weeks, but I finally finished the mechanics for saving and loading games. This was the last big hurdle I wanted to jump before releasing the first alpha demo. I’d like to do a little more testing and finish a few smaller tasks, then I will release the demo so you can try the game out for yourself.

In this video, I walk you through the new Settings screen and the process of saving and loading games.
